Basics

Name: Genevieve Lefoux
Age: 30, give or take a couple years
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Fandom: The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger
Canon Point: Beginning of Book the Third: Blameless

Appearance
PB: Joanne Kelly
Description: Genevieve is tall, probably around 5'9" or possibly a little taller. She's on the skinny and somewhat boney side of the spectrum. She has curly brown hair and green eyes. Oh and she has quite the adorable dimples when she truly smiles. Under most circumstances, she keeps her hair pinned up, usually in a way where she can be mistaken for a man upon being glanced at. However, upon her speaking or someone giving her a second, closer look would be able to see she's a woman. Her facial features are distinctly feminine despite the fact she rarely, if ever, wears make up. She dresses in men's clothing, never liking to dress in the customary dress women should wear. But even though she wears men's clothing, she still makes it stylish, so there is obvious care she takes with her appearance. She also has a small tattoo on the back of her neck just below her hairline which is an octopus, a symbol that she is a member of the Order of the Brass Octopus, which is a secret society of scientists and inventors.

Skills
Powers: None
Abilities: She is a genius. She's an inventor and is almost always working on some new project. And if she's not working on something new, she's tinkering around with something to try and improve it.
Other Skills: She speaks both French and English, and possibly a variety of other European languages to varying extents. When she speaks English, unless she is exceptionally surprised or shocked, her French accent is virtually undetectable to the untrained ear. It has been deduced that if she wished to become either a vampire or a werewolf, that she could survive the metamorphosis into one because of her excess soul.

Personality
General personality: Genevieve is always well put together, both in appearance as well as emotionally speaking. Typically it is hard to catch her off-guard. She has a quick wit and is flirtatious. Though when it comes down to her sexuality, she is lesbian, though this doesn't mean she doesn't flirt with the opposite sex. They will just be sorely disappointed to learn where her sexual preferences lie. Genevieve can be quite open and free with her affections, which most tend to attribute to the fact that she is French. Whether it is as a result of her country of origin or whether it is simply within her own personality is something no one may ever know.

Despite her normal, somewhat upbeat demeanor, Genevieve holds a broken heart that she can't quite heal completely. She was in love once, but now she is deeply lovelorn, though she keeps her pain to herself. She has mostly moved on from the love she once carried, but there are times when the memory of the love gets to her. There is one who is currently the object of Genevive's affection, but she must settle for being friends and nothing more than that. Going hand-in-hand with this, Genevieve does keep her emotions close to her heart. While she can be affectionate and so forth, it may take one a while to truly discern what the inventor is actually feeling. As such, Genevieve can be difficult to read sometimes to those who do not know her.

Genevieve is quite cunning and intelligent, sometimes so much so that she may seem like a spy and thus garner mistrust even if she is trying to protect the person who mistrusts her. There is also the fact that despite living in a world where the supernatural not only exists, but is also known to the common person, Genevieve has absolutely no desire to pursue immortality. She wishes to remain mortal despite knowing she would most likely survive metamorphosis into a supernatural creature.

Despite being a young woman still, Genevieve is often called Madame Lefoux. She has never been married, but by her own admission, using the term "madame" keeps certain prying questions at bay. Mostly about what a young, single woman with a child is doing owning a business and why she dresses like a man. This is also where a strong portion of her sense of humor shows through. While most refer to her as Madame Lefoux, her friends call her Genevieve.

History
Genevieve Lefoux was born in France sometime in the early to mid Victorian Era. Not much is known about her early life as she is quite tight-lipped about such things. She always had a sharp mind, and she was well-educated, her mind leading her towards becoming a scientist and inventor. She also had a keen interest in the supernatural beings of her world, and thus tended to study them as well as build new inventions. Genevieve always engaged in one or more projects around her lab. These tendencies eventually encouraged her to join the Order of the Brass Octopus, which is a secret society of scientists. Generally speaking, they are interested in the supernatural and what such beings are capable of. There is also the aspect of the fact that they are interested in how these beings come about. Genevieve herself seems to have a particular interest in preternaturals, which are people who are born without a soul and because of that, they can negate the supernatural. By such, a preternatural can turn a werewolf or vampire human as long as they maintain skin-to-skin contact. A preternatural can also exorcise ghosts.

Where Genevieve's life took an interesting turn was when she met a woman named Angelique. Angelique was pregnant, having a son, and her and Genevieve fell in love. It was perhaps the happiest time of Genevieve's life. At least until Angelique decided she'd rather try to become a vampire. But Genevieve wasn't about to let the woman she loved go so easily. She followed her, eventually ending up in England where she'd found Angelique was a drone to the Westminster hive. During the time she'd spent tracking Angelique, Genevieve was raising the boy as her own, even introducing him as her son, though the truth of the matter was known to the three and to the ghost of Genevieve's aunt who traveled with them. Genevieve was intent upon exposing Angelique as having a family tie, which would immediately squash her chances to become a vampire. When she arrived in London, Genevieve opened a hat shop, which soon became the talk of the town. However, the shop itself was a bit of a front. In the back of the shop, Genevieve had installed an entrance that took one down below the shop where she kept all of her inventions and work area for building and inventing things. Or, as she called it, her Contrivance Chamber. The chamber was always alive with huffing and puffing machines, the sounds of industry as she crafted new things into life.

During this, Genevieve met a woman named Alexia Maccon, wife to Conall Maccon, Lord of Woolsey and the Alpha of the Woolsey pack of werewolves, who at first was suspicious of the Frenchwoman, but eventually the two became close friends. They first met because Conall had enlisted Genevieve to fashion a parasol for Alexia. The parasol was not an ordinary parasol. Genevieve installed hidden compartments as well as defenses against werewolves and vampires and other such weapons for use against other potential attackers. Genevieve ended up traveling with Alexia to Scotland, both following Alexia's husband who had left without word, and tracking a strange occurrence. In Scotland, Alexia eventually unraveled the story between Angelique and Genevieve for herself after discovering that Angelique was a spy for the Westminster hive queen. Angelique ended up falling to her death, which led to her turning into a ghost and having known she could have become a vampire. And then eventually Alexia did exorcise Angelique's ghost. Angelique's death was the final nail in the coffin, so to speak, for Genevieve. It was closure, of a sort, though not the one she wanted. Genevieve had hoped she could save Angelique, to ground her in a mortal life once again. But with the woman's death, Genevieve finally had to face the fact the woman she loved was gone, and that the Angelique she loved had been gone for a long time. Accepting the death was difficult, but Genevieve needed to put what happened between her and Angelique behind her so she could move on with her life.

After this turn of events, as well as it coming to light that Alexia was pregnant and it is a known fact that supernatural beings cannot produce children, Genevieve sent her son off to boarding school, figuring it was the safest place for him. Alexia's husband, of course, threw her out. But Genevieve always had her suspicions that Conall actually was the father. No one really knew what preternaturals were capable of. So Genevieve still stood beside Alexia, never losing faith in her and always being there for her during these difficult times as best as she could. There was also the fact that during their time together, Genevieve found herself being quite attracted to Alexia. She had a tendency to flirt with Alexia quite frequently, but as Alexia was a married woman, Genevieve never expected the feelings to be reciprocated. So she had to settle for being merely friends with Alexia. This has caused her to become quite lovelorn as she does have a lot of love to give, but she didn't let it hold her back from supporting a friend in need. This support was reinforced after receiving a note from Alexia. Genevieve had it on good authority that she would be accompanying her friend on an overseas journey very soon.

What they have on arrival

She is dressed to the height of men's fashion as it was in the 19th Century in a Steampunk-infused world. That said, she is wearing a grey and blue man's suit complete with tail coat and cravat. There's most likely a pair of matching gloves in her pocket. However, there is no hat as she wasn't wearing one at the time.

This was most certainly disconcerting to an extreme. It was one thing to be expecting Alexia to arrive and start her on another journey. It was quite another fore Genevieve herself to wake up in a place that was most certainly not London. She wasn't even certain she was in Europe any longer. It certainly wasn't France, and it wasn't Great Britain either. The wheels in her scientifically-geared mind were turning, trying to make sense out of had occurred. She didn't feel as though she'd been drugged, all of her senses were still sharp. There was no pain in her head to suggest she'd been knocked out. So, then, what had happened?

"Mon dieu," she muttered in her native French. Alexia would be very cross if she wasn't at Chapeau de Poupe when the preternatural arrived. Genevieve looked around, trying to gain her bearings but found she was having trouble doing so. When one didn't know where they were, it was exceedingly difficult to determine how to get back to where one should be. Drawing in a steady breath, Genevieve pulled herself to her feet, brushing her clothes off, cursing lightly under her breath at her impeccably trimmed clothes being dirty now.

Judging from her surroundings, a person as well-dressed as she was should, perhaps, not dawdle. So she began moving, taking note of things as she passed them, knowing she needed to make some sense out of this. And also to keep a path of escape open should she need it. All right, at least these streets weren't too confusing to follow. And there were signs of life around. She could hear people at work, voices speaking. She passed several people who gave her strange looks. Genevieve frowned a bit. These people were not wearing clothes she recognized as being from the point in time she was from. Well, this was wonderful, truly. So she was wondering even more where she was. Was she in some uncivilized country that had not yet been brought into the modern world? Or was she having some strange fever dream?

Briefly pressing the back of her hand to her forehead, she determined she wasn't feverish. So that ruled that out. Wonderful. Which left her having to ask someone. She just hoped they spoke a common language otherwise she would have to be reduced to miming things out. That would just be unsightly! Passing what seemed to be a smithy and hearing someone pounding away on an anvil, Genevieve popped her head inside, deciding to start with speaking English, as that was what was spoken where she last came from.

"Hello there! Might I ask of you where exactly I am?" She managed to keep her French accent absent from her spoken English. Though if one was exceptionally tuned into nuances and such in the voice, her accent would still be somewhat noticeable.
